Following public consultation in 2016, Councillors have agreed to five routes across Kilbirnie.

These routes better connect local destinations, including:

  • St Patrick’s College
  • Kilbirnie Recreation Centre
  • Kilbirnie Library
  • ASB Sports Centre
  • Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre
  • St Catherine’s College
  • Evans Bay Intermediate
  • Rongotai College, and
  • Many local shops, cafes and recreation areas.

The routes will also provide connections to Miramar and Evans Bay.

Where the routes will go

Route one will include:

  • Coutts Street (from airport subway)
  • Te Whiti Street
  • Rongotai Road to Evans Bay Parade.

Route two will use Tirangi Road (between Coutts Street to connect to the end of Leonie Gill Pathway).

Route three will follow Evans Bay Parade (from Rongotai Road to Cobham Drive intersection).

Route four will include:

  • Queens Drive (at the end of Leonie Gill Pathway)
  • Childers Terrace
  • Crawford Road
  • Constable Street
  • Coromandel Street
  • Options to connect to Riddiford Street via Wilson Street, Daniell Street and Mein Street are yet to be determined.

Route five will use Yule Street between Rongotai Road and Leonie Gill Pathway.

These additional routes will connect to the existing cycling routes:

  • Leonie Gill Pathway (Tirangi Road to Queens Drive, and side route to Lyall Bay Parade)
  • Rongotai Road, Kemp Street to Evans Bay Parade.

We are seeking your views to help decide what these routes look like and to make sure we are aware of any potential issues and their solutions. To help us move the project forward, tell us what you think.
