The Hobart Street route has two sections. There are three options for the Kedah Street to Wexford Road section and two for the Wexford Road to Miramar Avenue section. A bike path on Hobart Street could connect to Broadway in the future.

It is noted that these Hobart Street design options were developed after the final meeting of the Miramar community working group. The group did not support putting forward options for Hobart Street that would affect footpath widths, trees or parking. As Hobart Street is one of the connecting streets between Miramar and Strathmore Park, the Council felt it was important to test design options with the wider community.

Any impact on bus stops, pedestrian crossings and driveways will be detailed in the next stage of design and available for feedback in November.

Section 2: Wexford Road to Miramar Avenue

Option A - One-way bike paths between kerb and parking, (at footpath level) car-door buffer zone
WexfordMiramarAve A
Why Option A?

The kerbside bike path improves safety for people on bikes, and encourages less-confident riders to use the route.

Impacts
  • No changes to parking
  • No changes to footpaths
  • Two traffic islands (with trees) might have to be removed
  • Likely uptake by people on bikes: High increase

Option B - One-way bike lanes between parking and traffic lane

WexfordMiramarAve B

Why Option B?

The new bike lanes will increase driver awareness of people on bikes, but are unlikely to encourage less-confident riders to use the route. The pinch points created by the traffic islands would be removed.

Impacts
  • No changes to parking
  • No changes to footpaths
  • Two traffic islands (with trees) might have to be removed
  • Likely uptake by people on bikes: Moderate increase
