The Broadway route has two sections: Miro Street (via the shared path under the airport runway) to Strathmore shops; and Strathmore shops to Seatoun Tunnel. Options were put forward for community feedback in September 2017.
Option likely to be developed: one-way uphill kerbside bike lane on the Tio Tio Road side
Why this option?
From the feedback received in September 2017, this option had more community support than Option B. A footpath-level bike path may be possible in the long term but would involve high costs of laying new kerbs and moving stormwater drains and pipes. Instead we are likely to develop a design for a kerbside bike lane at road level that would include a raised buffer for people to park against, and to get in and out of cars.

What’s next?
We expect this project to be progressed as future funding allows. There will be more discussion with the community and opportunities to have a say at that time.

Any impact on bus stops, pedestrian crossings and driveways would be detailed in the next stage of design.
Section 2: Strathmore shops to Seatoun Tunnel
Option A - One-way uphill kerbside bike path, Tio Tio Road side
Why Option A?
The kerbside uphill bike path would improve safety for people on bikes, and encourage less-confident riders to use the route. People on bikes travelling downhill from the tunnel would have to use the traffic lane.
Impacts
- No changes to parking
- Footpaths would be narrowed to 2.5m wide
- Painted median would be narrowed
- No trees would be removed
- Likely uptake by people on bikes: Moderate increase
Option B - Two-way separated bike path between footpath and parking, Tio Tio Road side
Why Option B?
The two-way bike path would improve safety for people on bikes and encourage less-confident riders to use the route. People in vehicles coming out of driveways would need to look out for bikes travelling in both directions.
Impacts
- No changes to parking
- Footpaths would be narrowed to 2.5m wide
- Painted median would be narrowed
- No trees would be removed
- Likely uptake by people on bikes: High increase

How we got here
In 2016 – following community open days, discussions with local residents and online feedback – Councillors confirmed the routes and roads that would be used to develop better biking connections.
