Visitors to the Botanic Garden will continue to have a range of transport options:

Options for getting to the Botanic Garden

  • Mobility parking will remain at Founders’ Entrance on Glenmore Street and at Lady Norwood Rose Gardens.
  • The number 2 bus between Miramar and Karori passes the city centre and the Botanic Garden roughly every seven minutes.
  • The Cable Car runs from Lambton Quay to the Botanic Garden every 10 mins. Bikes are also allowed to travel on the Cable Car out of peak hours. There is bike parking  at the top of the Cable Car.
  • A popular walking route is from The Terrace through Bolton Street Cemetery, about 15 minutes to the Lady Norwood Rose Garden and a further five minutes to the Display Garden.
  • A protected bike lane travels from the city to the main Garden entrance, and from there to Karori. There is bike parking near the Rose Garden, at the main  entrance, and at the top of the Cable Car. As always, riding a bike or e-scooter through the garden isn’t permitted.
  • If driving:
    • A reduced number of coupon car parks will be available on Glenmore Street. Coupon parks are free to use on weekends or public holidays, for up to two hours before 6pm weekdays, and anytime after 6pm weekdays.  Otherwise a coupon is required. 
    • Visitors can use free short-stay two- or three-hour parking on Glenmore Street near Founders' Entrance. 
    • Paid parking is available at the Lady Norwood Rose Garden, at the top of the Cable Car, Ballantrae Place, Clifton Terrace, Bolton Street and Mowbray Street.
